SNOW AND SUN, THE HARMONY OF OPPOSITES

Snow and sun, two opposite faces of nature, one cold and the other hot. Despite their contrasts, they existed together in harmony.

Zeynep and Arda's mother compared them to snow and sun. They were different, but they were not in harmony like sun and snow. One talked little, the other talked a lot. One was very organized while the other was very disorganized. One was very active while the other used to be very quiet. One was a bundle of love while the other seemed distant and aloof. Although the age difference between them was small, they could not agree on almost anything. One was a picky eater and the other would eat anything. Like two polar opposites, Arda did not like the things that Zeynep liked. Zeynep turned her nose up at the things Arda was interested in. Every day they found something to fight about. What one called white, the other called black. Even though her mother and father were saddened by this situation, they could not control them. Of course, one day they would make up, but when?

One winter morning, the snow had painted the earth white.

Despite the frost, they wanted to go out and play. They didn't even hear their mother, who urged them, “Play together!”

Zeynep was building a snow castle and Arda was designing his snowman. They were both immersed in the game. Arda wanted to make his snowman bigger, but he had difficulty dragging the pile of snow by himself. When he couldn't carry it despite his attempts, he felt like giving up. Just then Zeynep noticed him. First she thought, “Should I help?” Then she was overcome with pride and turned her back and left. But after a few minutes she felt uncomfortable. She went back and approached Arda and said, “Let's try it together if you want.”

Arda was surprised at first, then smiled slightly; “Sure...” he said quietly.

The two of them worked together and started to roll the big pile of snow.

After a while they managed to attach it to the body of the snowman. For Arda and Zeynep, this was much more than building a snowman.

It was proof that “we can actually have fun together”. It was a step towards breaking down their prejudices. They were united, they had succeeded together. Arda quietly walked away from Zeynep. He threw a snowball over Zeynep's shoulder from far away. He smiled at Zeynep and hid while preparing his ammunition. Zeynep started to move, “Here you go, here you go”. This was how the snowball war began in such a joyful way. The sounds of children playing snowballs, a sign of joy, filled the garden. They played games together all day long, building giant snow castles, drawing snow angels...

In the evening, both were tired but happy.  The family wanted to reinforce their bonding during the day. They played a family box game together.

The next morning Zeynep asked Arda to play together. Even though Arda liked to play alone, he adapted to Zeynep.

“But no spending time on the street until the evening, we'll come home after two hours and study, okay? Because I have to prepare for the exam.” Zeynep agreed and said, “Deal!” They played games with their friends in the neighborhood. Then they came home and studied together. Arda did his lesson while Zeynep read a book. They started to manage their differences and discover the beauty in each other.

The Experiential Design Teaching states: “Differences make people beautiful. The one who can adapt despite differences manages communication.”

The sun and the snow were different beauties in our lives. One was cold, calm and white; the other was warm, bright and sparkling. Despite their differences, they were in harmony. Human beings want to get close to those who are similar to them. And life often brings people with different characteristics under our noses. Differences that do no harm are an opportunity for people to develop and learn. Hoping to be among those who understand and adapt to the good.

To know the answer ask that "one" person!"
